Year One

Dear Jesse,

With my toes in the sand and the sun on my skin, I took your hands in mine and promised to never let go.

I ran my hands lovingly over the hem of my wedding dress and wondered if I'd find something as blue as your eyes.

I spent weeks rewriting my vows and learned each line like the lyrics to our favorite song.

We exchanged promises and side eyes and (disjointedly) swayed to #NewFreezer for our first dance.

It's been one year and I still don't know the passwords to any financial accounts but you've (almost) perfected how to season that butter chicken recipe and fold your laundry (sometimes).

I became an #Orange while 896 miles away, you became a Captain. I climbed snowy hills and tried to replay the memorized melodies of your laugh on the nights I felt out of place in these classrooms.

On days I miss you most, I hold on to my wedding ring and remember what it feels like to have found home

Happy Anniversary to you, to us 👰🏾💍🤵🏼
